Our Staff



Name: Jeff Rowthorn      Nickname: "J-Row"
Jeff is the founder of the Mighty Tykes Activity Camp. He currently teaches Grade 1/Grade 2 at Our Lady of Lourdes school. Jeff has participated in a wide variety of sports including basketball, soccer, football, rugby, snowboarding, volleyball, wall climbing, cycling, running, adventure racing, triathlons, karate and golf. He has also coached many different basketball, soccer, flag football and cross-country teams.


Name:Tina Scattolon      Nickname:"The Punisher"
Tina currently teaches a Gr. 2/ Gr. 3 split class at St. Paul's school in Hamilton. Tina has played soccer, tennis, golf and considers herself a "force to be reckoned with" in Texas Hold'em Poker.
Tina has coached soccer and cross-country.
We would like to wish Tina "good luck" with her upcoming wedding. What a lucky guy!


Name:Patricia Campos-Besu      Nickname:"Patty"
Patricia has just been informed that she will be teaching Junior Kindergartedn at Holy Name of Mary school next year. Patty has played soccer, basketball, and is an expert at 'Winds of Ancaster'.


Name:Sarah Scattolon      Nickname:"Doc"
Sarah is our newest councillor. She joined us during the March Break 2007 session and we will definately be inviting her back. Sarah is currently our only councillor that isn't a teacher. Sarah is in Medical school at the University of Toronto. She may look sweet and innocent but don't let that fool you- she's quick and she can throw twice as hard as Pickard!


Name:Vanessa Hurley      Nickname:"Peps" and "Prancer"
Vanessa is currently a student at McMaster University and is working on her Master's degree! Vanessa has worked as a camp councillor at other camps for many years. When she is finished her Master's degree, she would like to travel. Vanessa has played squash, volleyball, baseball and basketball.


Name: Mark Finochio      Nickname: "Gateau"
Mark currently teaches Grade 7 at St. Augustine's school in Dundas. His favourite subjects to teach are art and drama. Mark considers himself to be a "talented dancer" and enjoys showing off his best moves like 'the running man', 'the shopping cart' and 'the robot'. He has played football, baseball, softball, and he enjoys running and weightlifting.
Mark has coached flag football and baseball.


Name: Dave Pickard      Nickname: "Pic-Daddy"
Dave currently teaches Grade 5 at St. Helen's school in Hamilton. He has played basketball, golf, baseball, and he hopes to one day beat Jeff at anything (probably won't happen).
Dave, the self-proclaimed "Coach of the Year" at Holy Name of Mary school believes that he is a very strong dodgeball player and an expert juggler. He has coached and refereed a variety of sports including flag football, basketball, volleyball and cross-country.


Name: Renata Culina      Nickname: "Nada"/"Mrs. C"
Renata currently teaches Kindergarten at Holy Name of Mary school in Ancaster. Renata REALLY likes to talk. She has played soccer and volleyball. She coaches the school girl's and boy's volleyball teams.


Name: Mark Turkstra      Nickname: "Turkey"
Mark has participated in basketball, fishing, hockey, running, darts, mountain biking and golf. Mark has coached basketball, flag football and cross-country.


Name:Tracey Kandilas      Nickname:"Trace"
Tracey teaches Grade 8 at St. Ann's in Ancaster and recently had her second gorgeous child (Paige and Owen). Tracey has played basketball, soccer, volleyball and was quite the cross-country runner in her prime.
Tracey has coached basketball and cross-country.


Name:Kevin McKinnon      Nickname:"K-Mac"
Kevin is our student volunteer who worked during our March Break 2007 session. Kevin has a lot of energy and was excellent at pretty much everything that the group did. Kevin is a very kind and helpful guy and we sincerely hope that he will be coming back.


Name: Tanya Turkstra      Nickname: "T-Dawg"
Tanya currently teaches grade 8, at St. Joseph school in Hamilton. Tanya has a beautiful baby girl named Emily. Tanya is trilingual and speaks English, French and Portugese. Her lifelong goal is to one day beat her husband Mark at dodgeball. She has played volleyball, soccer, Monopoly, Scrabble, Scattegories and Trivial Pursuit (which Jeff ALWAYS beats her at!).
She has coached basketball, volleyball and cross-country.
